Dickens' 1843 classic tale forged an enduring cultural link between the celebration of Christmas and the practices and attitudes of a Christian life. Richard Lines, president of the Swedenborg Society, calls it "Dickens' Swedenborgian Fairy Tale." Dickens apparently wrote it shortly after reading the work "Heaven and Hell" Background tones are from church organ being tuned.
